Since 1997, our criminal defense law partner Jon Katz has repeatedly defended a wide range of drunk driving, misdemeanor, and felony cases in the Virginia state and federal criminal courts. Jon defends in Virginia all the time, most often in Northern Virginia, and also in courthouses that are a long drive away.
Virginia is the first place Jon lived when he came to law school in 1986. In 1997, Jon studied for and took the Virginia bar exam while working as a full-time trial attorney, and passed the exam at his first sitting, when the pass rate was 45%. In the process of spending twenty years in Virginia and repeatedly defending clients in its courts, Jon has become intimately and extensively familiar with Virginia -- at the legal and community level, from its urban areas to its countryside, and the many places in between -- and is deeply committed to justice there.
