Our criminal defense law partner Jon Katz is thoroughly comfortable and experienced in those courts, having started practicing law in Washington, D.C, in 1989. Jon's law firm, Marks & Katz, LLC, is less than one mile from D.C. and just eight miles from the DC courthouses; Jon also worked for several years in downtown DC both as an attorney and during law school.  Because of his high score on the multistate bar exam (having passed the Maryland bar exam on the first sitting), Jon waived into the District of Columbia Bar without needing to take the bar exam there. Jon repeatedly defends in the District of Columbia courts, and has defended a variety of criminal and drunk driving cases (in the Superior Court) in the trial and appellate courts at the state (statehood is the goal) and federal level in the District of Columbia. 

Jon is admitted to practice before Washington, DC's key courts: Superior Court, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, United States District Court, United States Court of Appeals, and United States Supreme Court. 

Jon is intimately familiar with Washington, DC, having previously lived there for fifteen years, having graduated from law school there, and having spent time with people in nearly every corner of the city, from the most opulent sections to the poorest and to the many places in between.
